Genesis is my final year project at Hertfordshire. I decided to make concept art for a vr game,  focusing in Character design taking inspiration from the narratives of Joan of Arc in a sci fi genre.

Unending, relentless, the 100 years war continues. Freed from the other, tyranny of the dark maiden corrupts both living or dead. You have been chosen to aid Joan in her mission to save her planet from evil forces, finally bringing peace to a centuries long battle.

This project was sparked by the legacy of Joan of Arc .

Raised in a strong catholic upbringing and interest in other cultures, lives experiences infuse ideas to my works. Stained glass windows are stunningly ornate full of visual storytelling.Taking  Orleans cathedral stained glass windows, a significant historical value in its series of illustrated glass panels honouring the heroines life, to bring life to this project.

My project is categorised into different character concepts:

-The first ,Final boss dark maiden Lilit, representing opposition to the heavens mission for Joan

-Secondly, enemy minions Crazer a zomborg concept, inspired by Burgundian troops

-Thirdly, focuses on protagonist Joan, and other Joan concepts for players to choose

DARK MAIDEN, LILLIT

Inspired by Lilith, shadows and character references from final fantasy ifrit and Lilith, alongside biblical research were considered to create the Dark Maiden. Lillits outcome then helped build spell concepts using her characters hook.

Upon further development it was decided that her character could be improved, so I exaggerated sharp shapes and added features, thinking about material and armour to help define her role and personality.

CRAZER

Inspired by Burgundian troops, studies of decomposing human and gun anatomy developed the visuals in a sci-fi genre. Crazer was also redeveloped as it portrayed too much of of a robotic identity which overpowered the corruption of humanity which I wanted to be also present.

JOAN CONCEPTS

ICHTHYS

Diving deep into biblical research of christianity, I came across a fish symbol named Ichthys, thus it became a starting point to create a sci-fi mermaid, representing Joan and her mission in liberating France from England .

CYPHER

Playing around with sci-fi, I naturally looked at technology and its development especially during the 2000s.Cypher was inspired by prominent sci-fi films like Bladerunner and Akira,  influencing her fashion and whacky hair. I had fun exploring the systems and mechanics of vintage technology incorporating my fascination of old technology into Cypher's character to bring a more interesting story, whilst keeping Joan of arcs narrative in mind.

GEN1515

Regarding biblical references of angels battling demons, Gen1515 is more of a traditional concept for players, considered within a sci fi genre. This concept is inspired by the French symbol Fleur de lis, which is displayed in Joans flag as well as being a national French  symbol.
