Nicola Freeman CDW/Flinders 2023

Hi! My name is Nicola Freeman and I'm studying the BCAVEED (Visual Effects and Entertainment Design) with CDW Studios and Flinders University. I'm studying 2D Animation and here's a lil snippet of some work I like from this year so far.

For my actual 2D Animation class, I was tasked to design a character to use for a few animations, one of which is a walk cycle. Firstly we had to use simple shapes to design a character suitable for animation, make a turnaround view, and then go through with making the walk cycle. My character is a simple white rabbit, and above is my character sheet, and below is my turnaround view.

This project above is for my storyboarding class. I think the brief was to show a character entering a room... anyways my short clip shows a character entering a dark room and meeting a ghost friend!

Below here is my multimedia classwork, in which class we were sorted into groups and tasked with making either a short story clip or a tv channel ident/sting. My group decided on making an ident for a tv channel dedicated to horror films and content, and I created this rough animatic for it. The ident features the channel's mascot approaching the camera that's filming and stabbing a knife through the screen, breaking into the "real world" and emerging into 3D. The screen is revealed to be a projector screen that falls down in 3D space, revealing the channel logo on the wall behind. I designed the mascot, and also created the background and animated the camera. It's a little hard to get the gist from just my animated background (as another member of my group animated the mascot, and other members added the 3D elements) so I included my original animatic as well. However what I've added here is 100% my own work.

The channel mascot goes in the middle, and after this the 3D elements are added in. 

I'm definitely going to keep improving my skills with various other projects in the near future, and hope to have a better Rookies entry next year, as this isn't up to my personal standards this time for various reasons. However I'm mostly submitting this entry for a grade for my class! Not to say this is work I'm not proud of, but I hope to have some work not created for homework purposes next time, and work of higher quality. Thanks for taking a look!
