Immigrating to Space

During the second half of 2022, I participated in a team project called "Interception" conducted by Media Design School. My responsibilities included conceptualizing, modeling, texturing, surfacing, and lighting for the spaceship interior and couches.

I did the concept design with Maya and Photoshop, modeled in Maya, and finished the texturing and surfacing in Substance Painter. The interior lighting was done in Houdini.

It took me about five weeks for the whole process.

Below is the concept development of the couch, with the UV map of the couch model shown at the end. My design responsibility was for the couch back, as the cushion had already been finalized. I offered several ideas at the beginning of the project, and after my supervisor chose his favorite design, I continued to develop it until we arrived at the final one for modeling and texturing.

Meet The Superhero

This is a cute version of the Captain America model I did in Zbrush during my year two study in Media Design School for my bachelor's degree.

It took me about one week for this project.

Entertain with Animation

In the "Interception" project, after completing my work on the spaceship interior and the couch, I joined the animation team and contributed to animating the alien character. This clip is before comp.

During the first half of 2023, I participated in "Off The Grid," a team project for graduation undertaken by seven students from Media Design School within a span of fifteen weeks. The project resulted in a three-minute short animation film. As the team leader, I collaborated with my teammates, and together we achieved the award for Media Design School's Best Film of the season.

Below is a portion of my contribution to the project's animation. Additionally, I served as the main modeler for the cave in the scenes, which was built using Houdini.

I was responsible for the rigging of the film's characters as well. I finished the rigs in Maya.

Light It Up & Comp

As a Technical Direction student, I have a keen interest in lighting and compositing. In the project "Off The Grid," I was involved in the compositing process, and below is a shot that I worked on.

The scene was lighted in Houdini and comped in Nuke.

The following is an assignment I completed during my second year of study at Media Design School for my bachelor's degree.

For this project, I utilized a selection of models provided by our tutor to craft a narrative. I was responsible for the layout, camera movement, texturing, lighting, and compositing. In Maya, I handled the texturing and lighting, and further enhanced the lighting by incorporating volumetric effects and dust particles in the scene using Nuke.

It took me two weeks for this project.

Texture Is Indispensable

Below are two surfacing projects I completed in Mari. The surfacing of the helmet took me approximately five days, while the surfacing of the van took me around eight days.

A Happy Ending

The last artwork I would like to share with you is a still-life project I worked on for four weeks in 2022. The project involved capturing three photos to depict three different stories. After taking the photos, each student needs to discuss his/her selections with the tutor, finalize one photo and develop the concept further. The final outcome is to create a render that closely resembles the chosen photo.

My story revolves around a ping-pong family. After a long day of traveling, the ping pong bat parents are exhausted. However, the enthusiastic little ball, representing the child, suggests, "Now that we're home, shall we play another game?" Unfortunately, the parents fade out upon hearing this.

The following images showcase the setup in Maya, wireframes of the models, the raw render, and the final outcome.

Thank you

Thank you for your patience and consideration. I hope you find as much joy as the little ping-pong ball. ^_^
