Here is my Digital Painting class work for this semester. Here is a design document showing the process from thumbnail to finish.

Above is a small brief that I used to begin working on thumbnails.

My main inspiration for the alien structures was from modern brutalist architecture and sculptures. I think that employing this idea within a jungle setting would be an interesting concept and would be fun to execute.

When creating a few thumbnails for an exterior shot, I realised that executing this aesthetic would be quite hard to achieve. I found out that in simplicity, difficulty would present itself.

I found that designing a lot of the smaller things on the island would make my life less difficult in the long run. The above picture shows designs for the island, a few miscellaneous altars as well as heiroglyphs that explore a backstory behind the reason for ruins' existence.

I designed a shape that would be used as the monolithic structure that most of my pieces would be centered around. I would try to repeat this shape language as I delved into the creation of an interior piece later on.

Here's the initial thumbnail pieces that I did for my final exterior shot. I was hesitant going into the final piece, as I was unsure which thumbnail I could use to tell the story that I wished to tell.

Here is my final piece for the exterior shot.

Now here is my development process for an interior shot, of which would portray the inside of the structure.

Since I knew that the design was going to be very simplistic, I knew that designing the room as a sketch and then experimenting with different compositions was the key to creating a nice image.

Here is my final interior piece.
