God of War Ragnarök Fan Art

Hi, I'm Thomas, a 4th-year environment game art student at Game Academy, and for my mid-term exam, I had four weeks to create a convincing piece. I chose to make a fan art of Sindri's office from God of War Ragnarök in Unreal Engine 5.

The Original Concept was made by Luke Berliner, Lead Environment Concept Artist.


The artist Ivanna Littschwager made the original 3D scene in-game.

It was the primary reference source for my recreation; I launched the game and took as many screenshots as possible. 


I started my scene with a quick block out to determine each asset's size compared to the Unreal mannequin.


Then I created the assets in high poly in Zbrush. Here is the kit I made to build the whole scene.

I then retopoligized all my assets in Maya. The total scene contains 500k triangles.

I assembled the scene directly in Maya as this is the software I'm the most comfortable using. 

Then it was time for Substance Painter.

Texturing was the most challenging part of this exam for me. 


I then imported the scene in unreal without the textures so I could start placing all the lights needed to create the right ambiance. 

Here are my UVs sets; my whole scene only requires four materials.


Here are my assets lined up in Unreal Engine.


This is the  render without the lighting.

Here's the final result! I hope you like it.
