This piece came from my 3rd trimester at JMC for my Production Art final assignment - to produce a greyscale rendered scene. It was a great opportunity to practice and learn more about texture rendering, value control, blend modes, and lighting. Our lecturer Dan Cox and my classmate Ruben was of great assistance to me on this piece.

I did my best to figure out Spamton NEO's canonical designs and proportions but due to Deltarune being a pixel game, I was encouraged to take liberties and imagine the 3D version and materials. All screenshots and assets are taken from Deltarune Chapter 2 by Toby Fox.

I was confused on how the lighting scenario would work and sent my first attempt (1st top) to Dan, his paint over (2nd bottom) helped me to better understand.
Cave man Blender
As I still haven't learnt Blender and couldn't find a reference online similar to my scene, I decided I would just recreate it myself using objects around the house, a phone flashlight and phone camera. I adjusted, edited and moved elements from the photo in Photoshop to reconstruct the scene and objects within it.
Heat map & rendering
Before rendering I created a heat map (technique shared by Jessica Oyhenart on Twitter) to define my areas for level of detail. I originally wanted a ragged and torn cloth look for his wings, but realised this didn't read well at all with the values.
