The Best for Beef is a 2D animated short film that follows a kind cat named Beef who is thrown out of his original home only to be impulsively adopted by two roommates.
Story
The Best for Beef is loosely based on true events that my older adopted cats have gone through. Our current cat's reaction to items like old balls of yarn, hand purses, and wheels has given my partner and I a glimpse into what kind of past he has had. So initially in the film I wanted to have Beef focus on items and the instinctual feelings they can bring, but I realized making a main character that doesn't actively direct their own path like a cute and helpless cat shifted the story to convey that life isn't always solely determined by you or your actions. Yet I feel it's important to remain hopeful and remember through little things like comfy chair cushions that there are good people who will love and help you.
Character Art
The film is based off of personal experiences that me, my partner, and our cats have had. Therefore the characters naturally went through designs that loosely look like us.
