I had the opportunity to work for the french chocolate maker and pastry chef Julien Gayraud to create a billboard for his store in Albi. I was asked to create two drawings for his sidewalk chalkboard, two signs of 120x50 cm each. Moreover, I had to imagine a new illustration for his chocolate gummy bears packaging.

Advertising creation for a french chocolate maker and pastry chef

In July 2022, after showing some of my personal projects to the chocolate maker I was chosen to accomplish a wonderful quest. He wanted an original creation for his sidewalk chalkboard to attract more attention.

He desired to have something joyful, funny, colorful and of course, greedy!

With these instructions I began my research and have the idea to create two mascots moving in a world full of cakes, chocolate and pastries.

First of all, I had the idea to create a rabbit because when you think about chocolate, you definitely think about Easter and its Easter Bunnies. So I created “Bunny” and I gave him the role of the chocolate maker.

For the bear cub, I was inspired by Julien Gayraud speciality: chocolate gummy bears. However, I also wanted to give him a role as I did for the rabbit. So, I decided to create a superhero “Super-Nounours” ( Super-Bear ) which is very greedy and can’t resist eating the Bunny’s delicious pastries! That’s why he always has his tongue out!

Then, after creating my little characters I could begin to find different compositions for the sidewalk chalkboard. It was a real challenge to combine in the huge 120 x50 cm format, the characters with this long script:

- “Artisan Pâtissier et Chocolatier” ( Craftsman pastry chef and chocolate maker )

- “Sur place ou à Emporter” ( To eat in or Take away )

- “ Boissons locales fraîches” ( Fresh local beverages )

- “ Café” ( Coffee )

- “Glaces à l’italienne” ( Soft-serve ice cream )

- his and my instagram account

But even with those difficulties I was able to find 3 nice compositions to show the chocolate maker. The three propositions were a nod to the chocolate maker’s work, it could be either his logo or his pastries!

The first proposition was inspired by the movement Art Nouveau : the advertising poster was framed with curves made of barley sugars. We can see Bunny is making chocolate whereas Super-Nounours just wants to dive into the bowl of chocolate.

The second proposition was inspired by Albi, the french town where the chocolate maker is set up. The two mascots look very happy to live here, in therefore they welcome visitors offering a cake of the Cathedral Sainte-Cécile shape, as this cathedral is listed in the UNESCO world heritage!

The third proposition was more inspired by a comic strip. Indeed, surrounded by sweets, Bunny is running after Super-Nounours eating his chocolate and shouting angrily “ Bear stop eating my chocolates! ”.

As the chocolate maker chose the first and the second proposition I could begin the production of the sidewalk chalkboard. I applied a base coat, then I drew the drawings with charcoal and pencil and I painted with acrylic.

However, as the chocolate maker enjoyed also the third proposition, he asked me if I could draw this funny drawing with Bunny chasing Super-Nounours to create his chocolate gummy bears new packaging and to illustrate new mugs!

At last I have been very proud to admire since then, my work displayed in the street of the chocolate store and in its window. Besides, my biggest satisfaction is to witness the smiles on the children’s faces as they stop in front of Bunny and Super-Nounours and say to their parents "Mummy, Daddy, look!”
