Character Design

For my Electives this year, I wanted to explore a pattern in life that I have always been quite naïve about that I think we all experience in our daily lives, but don't often think about with intent. I've wanted to do more character design for a while, so I wanted take this opportunity and explore more of this thinking through that medium.

"You either play the game, or lose it automatically" is a phrase that has been repeating in my head over the past year that describes the philosophy. I thought it would be fun to write a short story or a novel that explores the actions of people through history to gain and maintain power in their lives, that often involve compromising common ethics in favor of self-interest and gain.

Story Outline

In the tranquil refuge of the dilapidated Nihilon monastery, Benedict, a once-humbled man, seeks solace from a life plagued by failure and societal rejection. As a groundskeeper and clergy assistant, he turns his back on the world that outcast him, finding respite in his resigned seclusion.

However, the serenity of Benedict's sanctuary is shattered when three enigmatic figures intrude upon the monastery grounds, disrupting his hard-earned peace. Each character presents a unique challenge to Benedict, forcing him to confront his deepest vulnerabilities and transform himself in order to safeguard his newfound tranquility.

In a gripping struggle against his own limitations, Benedict must navigate the complexities of his past and the uncertainties of the present. As he battles to overcome his damning weaknesses, the question remains: Can true and lasting peace be attained, or is it merely an elusive dream in the face of life's relentless tests?

Benedict

"Benedict sought refuge in this place not out of an affinity for horticulture or charity but as a respite from the dishonesty and manipulation that permeated the world he had once been part of—a realm consumed by petty bureaucracy and power-hungry courtiers and politicians."

Alexander

"Alexander didn’t seem to have much to say, himself. One might assume he never needed to say anything to have his wishes fulfilled."

Everard

"The man in the white cape had introduced himself to the crowd as ‘Everard’. He was letting everyone know that from this day forward, he and his companions would be taking leadership of the grounds and reassigning all available resources to their new appropriate benefactors, under their new rule. Everard had captivated the crowd with such charming charisma that the crowd seemed almost pleased with the whole affair, like they were being offered a great deal."

Illustration

Below are some of my works that I am the most proud of. I am very influenced by the illustration style of Riot Games, splash art in particular. I appreciate an image with dynamic action, clear communication of mood and emotion, and a high quality of render and design.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Fan Art (ownership: CD Projekt RED)

I drew a friend in the form of a witcher from The Witcher universe. This one came on and went off of the shelf a couple of times over the span of a year or so. I had a lot of difficulty with the face and pose, which was immensely satisfying for me once I came through :).

League of Legends, Fan Art (ownership: Riot Games)

I had to do a piece of fan art for my favorite champion from League of Legends. I decided to depict him in a scene from his short story "House on Emberflit Alley" that I thought was quite sweet.

The Witcher 1, Fan Art (ownership: CD Projekt RED)

God of War, Fan Art (ownership: Santa Monica Studios)

Before Ragnarok came out I participated in an art contest hosted by YouTuber "Kaptain Kuba". In the end, this scene turned out to not happen in the game's narrative ✊😔.

League of Legends, Fan Art Contest WINNER, 2021 (ownership: Riot Games)

Thank you
