This Final Degree Project is a study on the possibilities of graphic staging of the phobias most related to the sinister aesthetics derived from the Freudian concept of Unheimlich. The practical objective was to create a series of illustrations that respect the iconography of these phobic and sinister spaces.

Kaleah - character design dossier

" In the depths of a planet earth totally consumed by water lie the remains of multitude civilizations. Amongst the motionless remains a human figure wanders aimlessly along the seabed. Their skin color is a pale light gray and their hair waves slowly floating in the water. It is a cracked marble statue whose pieces are joined together by a faint yellow glow that illuminates the dark depths of the sea. The remaining habitants now live on the surface, moving about in ships and building settlements on floating rafts. "

The story and characters are inspired by the legend of Atlantis, ancient magics hidden beneath the ocean and a not-so-dystopian future. Kaleah is a Greek style statue with proportions that combine masculine and feminine features. It was awakened among ancient remains and began to explore.

 In the creation process I decided to highlight her feet and legs with their proportion and ornaments since their main action is to walk underwater. Althought this character looks muscular and heavy their way of moving would be light and careful again combining masculine strength with Greek feminine delicacy.

I used several creative methods during the creation of kaleah such as silhouette drawing. I did turn arounds, detail mapping, style sheets and illustration of emotions and poses to help me define the character to the fullest.

Line-ups

Here i have a collection of character line-ups I´ve worked on. In the first one, I did two of the characters in a group project following an established art style. The following lineup is following a farm theme and the last one is a lineup of the kinds of "pikmin" from a game.
