Don't be tuna'ive : Mr. Tuna
Making 'Mr.Tuna' was my favorite part in the 'Don't be tuna'ive short i made alongside my teammates! The goal was to make an expressive smug and lovable fish without having him look like every other fish design out there. There are only so many ways one can draw a fish ! Here's how I went about it!
For this part of the project, I was in charge of Mr. Tuna's character Design as well as his shading, texturing, and lookdev.
The modeling and retopology were done by my teammate Alizée WAQUEZ ([email protected]).
And so to be sure the design I came up with worked, I had to work on poses and facial expressions.
And a lot.. a LOT of color tests before we i landed on one everyone liked !
The most challenging part of the shading we the fins. With little time on my hands, I could not waste any of it on hand drawing every little vain. And so I managed to save some time by using (believe it or not!) a scanned map of cabbage leaves!
I personally think the irridescence I added to the overall shading adds a little 'je ne sais quoi' that brings the whole look together.
Another part I enjoyed a lot was the modeling and retopology of our other main character : Takashi !
I hope you enjoyed my process and that Mr. Tuna made you smile!
