Looking Forwards into UTOPIA Through the Lens

The reason for choosing cameras and tapes is because Netflix is a media company, and its daily job is to stream, produce and publish movies, TV series, documentaries, etc. Not only that, through lenses, we are able to capture every precious memories; while tapes helps us to frozen every beautiful moment. So, through lenses, we can create our own UTOPIA. In this office design, it will be a mixing of minimalistic and futuristic but cosy design; a place where people can be motivated, but at the same time people can also feel like they were at home, more comfortable and relax.

For the office, it uses an open space planning layout – doesn’t matter what department they belong to, everyone work together in a space which allows them to have a better communication and discussion; this also related back to Netflix’s philosophy : share information openly, broadly, and deliberately – are extraordinarily candid with each other – avoid rules – encourage independent decision-making by employees – keep only our highly effective people. 

The director office and working area was facing the north, this gives the space a consistent and indirect natural lighting throughout the day. Setting the working spaces facing north allow for even illumination, minimizing the presence of direct sunlight that may cause glare or temperature fluctuations. This balanced lighting can enhance visual comfort and reduce eye strain, creating a more conducive environment for work.

The meeting room was facing at east which allows the meeting rooms to get the morning sun. Morning sunlight can create a visually appealing and inviting atmosphere in a meeting room. The warm, natural glow of sunlight can enhance the aesthetics of the space and create a positive ambiance. This pleasant environment can contribute to a sense of well-being, comfort, and positivity among meeting participants.

Working pods was also set at the lounge area. Understandable that not everyone will have a good mood the whole day or every day, so whenever people feel like wanted to work alone, boost up their mood or even highly focused on their job, they can choose to use the working pods without affecting others. 

The overall style is more inclined to the minimalistic futuristic style. In the design, I uses different materials of red on the walls and furniture, including metal, velvet, acrylic, and cement. Appropriate use of red can embellish the space and boost up people's mood, but excessive red will be counterproductive.
