Artwork

Definitely one of highlights of Colossal Peaks is the fantastic artwork our Lead Artist El Arbuthnott produced. The world of Colossal Peaks is filled with colourful and powerful characters and El did an amazing job at bringing them to life.

One of which being our protagonist Elie Jumphrey of which you will have seen on the main menu or jumping the tower in the main game. Elie was 3D modelled and textured by El Arbuthnott in a record time so we were able to get him into the game and perfect the feel of Elie jumping up the tower.

Animation

Once our Lead artist El made our main character, it was the role of our Lead animator Daniel Benn to animate him. It was vital that the user knew how far they were jumping and how long the user had held the charge button. So the animations were a very key feature of our game and Daniel successfully portrayed all of the key actions as well as setting up a foolproof state machine.

Audio

Our Lead Audio Specialist - Peran Reynolds, gave our game the iconic soundtrack and ambience that we needed for the busy world of Colossal Peaks. He took influence from the heavy industrial sounds of Doom and Howard Shores' doomy brass sections of Lord of the Rings. This soundscape he has created ties all of the elements of the game to become this well-rounded experience that if headphones are worn becomes immersive.

Voice lines

Peran also took the lead in writing and recording the voice lines of the characters throughout the tower. These voices gave the falling, climbing, success and failure a more deeper meaning. Working in collaboration with our programmers Alex and Michael, we were able to create prompts for when the elders insult the player and make the falls even more hurtful.

Design & Programming

Main Menu/Hub

One key aspect of this game was to make sure when the player wants a break from the jumping, which this genre of jumper most of the time does, they have a main menu (hub-like) to explore and unlock extra features with the progress they have made.

This main screen showcases the talented art, animation, audio and user interface effects that all of the specialists have worked on.

There have been many iterations of this hub but the final product is a condensed, UX-friendly experience away from the frustrations of precise skill-based gameplay.

Mobile Friendly

There has been, from the very beginning, design and programming, done by our Lead Designer - Michael Bull and Lead Programmer - Alex Basta, to make this mobile game friendly to the mobile market.

We designed Colossal Peaks around frustration and repetitive learning. The autosave mechanics, banking points, time trials and everything in-between were there to reinforce the stop-and-start nature of mobile gaming. Especially with the commuter in mind.
