A piece of Symbiosis, the collection seeks to create awareness of our own existence as part of the planet and universe, and not as owners of it. The all within a whole. Playing with artisan processes, appreciating the uniqueness and complementing it with digital.

                           SYMBIOSIS

The solar system was formed by the gravitational collapse of a giant molecular cloud of hydrogen, helium and heavy elements arising from previous stellar generations. It began to rotate faster and flattened into a protoplanetary circumstellar disk, with most of the mass accumulating in the center, which became increasingly hot.

This almost ordered combination of the different elements was creating the perfect conditions for life to occur. Metals and silicates that remained solidly close to the sun formed the terrestrial planets. Beyond the frost line, volatile compounds remain solid, creating the gas giants and icy giants. The rest of the smaller bodies, asteroids, satellites, comets... in continuous change, everything travels freely through the solar system, almost in perfect harmony.

Starting from life, the collection is inspired by its relationship with the universe, referring to a "symbiosis", an intimate association between different organisms that mutually benefit from their development (cells, neurons, their connections... that coordinate and complement each other for everything to work). The universe, in the same way, presents adequate conditions so that there can be equilibrium (distancing, gravity, temperature...).

The patterns repeat. The planets and the gravitational force, the cells and their connections; the amount of gases in the atmosphere, brain chemistry... everything that allows for proper functioning, if any of these things vary, chaos would be created.

The collection seeks to create awareness of our own existence as part of the planet and universe, and not as owners of it.

The all within a whole.

The universe as a metaphor for a being.

Symbiosis aims to convey the idea of "everything within a whole" giving a certain prominence to the body, by superimposing garment and volumes, which refers to volatile elements; they are combined with openings in fitted or loose garments, that show or cover the body, to create a relationship between model and garment, this represents the heaviest elements, while the openings symbolize the emptiness of the universe.

A very important part of the collection are the textures and patterns of the garments, which, although the color palette and fabrics are limited, nature offers us a wide variety of possibilities to experiment. This is where nature comes into the game in this symbiosis   << model, garment, pattern >>.

Closing the cycle, the prints, made from natural pigments, represent the textures, shapes and colors of the solar system. The entire process of investigation and previous experimentation takes its meaning in the fabrics of the collection.

The colors interact each other, contrasting cold and warm, the color palette is made up of brown-orange, purple-pink, blue, white and black. The cold tones represent the volatile elements of the universe, gases and water. Warm colors shape fire and heavier elements such as minerals and metals. The white symbolizes the ice, and the black the emptiness.

As protagonists we have the catechu acacia that offers us, in this case, browns; the Rubia tinctorum the pink tones; the logwood the intense purples, and of course, the indigo, the blues. Playing with these natural pigments, Symbiosis prints were created.

Throughout history, dye has been associated with a hierarchy of power, purple and black have always been associated with royalty. Color in clothing is one of the factors that generates the most impact, it is an intrinsic and fundamental part of the garment’s design. The colors red, purple, blue, green and black were very rare in some civilizations or regions of the world, because there are few plants or minerals from which they can be extracted. It requires developing sensitivity to color, being a more intuitive than cognitive process.

We currently place very little value on color, but consumers have become more aware of the environmental impact of the fashion industry and there is a growing demand for products that use sustainable materials.

Appreciating the uniqueness of the garments and combining artisan processes with the digitalization of the fashion industry is currently strictly necessary, to achieve a “symbiosis” with the planet.

The fabrics used in the collection are cotton and Lycra. Two very different materials that provide us with different properties. Cotton is very versatile, it gives us different textures depending on the type of fabric, it is resistant, pleasant and breathable. In this collection, this natural fiber has been chosen, and not another such as linen, due to its more uniform texture; a twill has been used for pants and overalls for its resistance and body, a voile for other lighter garments such as blouses, and a Molton fabric for the jackets. On the other hand, Lycra is a very elastic fabric, which gives us the option of creating garments that fit the body completely, without losing comfort.

THE LOOKS

I have also used programs like Blender and Unreal Engine, to model the buckle of the fourth look and the final catwalk. The textures, the different materials and the fog.

If you want to see more here is my first digital proyect, I have done recently:

                         EPHEMERAL

This collection is inspired by the canon of beauty that has been reflected in art throughout history: constantly changing and evolving.

Something volatile that is on constantly changing depending on the different influences, causes insecurities, problems and disorders in people, who fight to comply with that canon, forgetting about their physical and mental health.

With this collection, I relate this concept to snow sports, such as snowboarding or skiing, using draping, and also other textures reminiscent of stone or marble, strong but breakable.

The color palette will consist of warm, desaturated and dark tones so that they are visible in the snow. The collection is unisex, and in terms of silhouettes, volumes and tight-fitting garments that redraw the body are combined.

The cold, the white tones, the adrenaline of falling into the void, and the risk that this entails, being used as a metaphor for the discomfort of having to pretend to adapt to society, at the same time covering the complexes so that no one sees them and the feeling of loneliness that you feel when you don't like the way you are.

Loose and tight garments complement each other, making use of these contrasts that remain in the discourse, to hide, but at the same time show you. Hoods, coats, padding, straight lines that are intermingled with more organic shapes, gathers and wrinkles.

The catwalk will contrast with the warm tones of the garments, made up of white, blue and turquoise tones that will color the space through which the model will parade.

It will consist of a large central arch from which ice stalactites will fall. Behind we will have five ice walls with irregular shapes, which are strategically placed so that the avatars can hide behind them.

The lighting will be quite dim, and bluish, but it will illuminate the models with white light to be able to appreciate the colors of the garments.

Covering the catwalk there is a mist that introduces us to the cold atmosphere of the poles.

The catwalk is quite simple, without too many elements, and the general shots of the sequences are intended to give the sensation of spaciousness, all this to refer to loneliness and how small we really are. The materials of the elements are emissive, they emit a slight bluish light, which helps to give that translucent effect of ice.

The collection has no gender. Stereotypes affect all us and for this reason I wanted to make 3 different avatars: one female, one male, and one neutral gender. They have a marbled texture that imitates the material of classical sculptures, which showed the canon of beauty, trying to represent deities, with a non-existent perfection.

The collection is inspired by snowwear with padded and flowing shapes. As for the silhouettes, they maintain the cut at the waist, contrasting the tight, which shows the shapes of the body; and the over-sized, which hides and redraws them. Following the discourse of the collection, we find straight lines that represent the social construct and the norm; and more organic forms representing reality.

Based on the references from which the idea of the collection starts, we find folds and gathers that represent that reality in which we live trapped, the volatile and changing nature of beauty, we also play with the cuts in the garments, which create that sensation of brokenness.

The body is covered almost entirely, even covering the head and face, which creates a shell and a second skin that prevents seeing inside.

As for the textures, they refer to stone, hard but breakable. We observe three different prints: one crackled, a porous stone, and another with a rough texture. The colors are earthy, warm, but quite desaturated, and as an accent we have an orangey pink, more carnal.

Among the fabrics I have chosen nylon, which is resistant to wear and dries quickly; and knitted fabrics, which are pleasant to the touch. They are light, elastic fabrics and provide good thermal stability.

The patterns on the garments imitate the texture of materials such as stone, in different shapes, broken, porous and rough. They simulate the materials from which classical sculptures are made, transmitting that idea of hardness and perfection, however, over time it changes, erodes, breaks, and loses that perfection. The ephemeral of beauty.
