Gold Beneath The Snow

These are the designs I do for my Design Process Principle class. I am mostly inspired by Eskimo or Inuit Culture. As I grow up in a tropical country, I am highly curious to explore other parts of the world covered with snow. 

Gold Beneath The Snow is a story about a world hidden in the Artic continent. It's a magical world with a special bee species that produce a substance of pure gold instead of wax to construct their hive. The native people of that region mainly work as a beekeeper, they will harvest the hive and honey every season.

Brew Perfection

Brew Perfection tells a story of a perfectionist Singaporean Nyonya, who has a special business. For years Nyonya Leong supplies tea for the wedding ceremony, Legend says that every couple who drinks her tea will be blessed with happily ever after their marriage life.

This project was heavily influenced by Chinese Peranakan wedding culture in Singapore. The reason I'm choosing this culture was because I am a Chinese Peranakan myself and I am also amazed by how colorful their culture is. I am really enjoying the process of this project as I am able to learn more about my heritage.

Fausse Venus

Fausse Venus is a collaborative project I've done for concept design and illustration class. The story of our team mainly utilizes French culture with art deco and rococo elements in a cyberpunk setting. The title itself comes from a French word that means False Venus. 

The story is about an agent who is sent to supervise a suspicious world-renowned runway event. Disguising as a fashion model, she and her colleague investigate the demons' whereabouts. However, the runway event holds a sinister secret; as it’s a ritual in disguise, to call upon a demon once every few years. It's up to both of them to stop the threat before something dangerous happens. 

This is the poster illustration for Fausse Venus, the person I paint is Vera the main character who is a secret agent undercover as a model. The layout idea is to make it look like a fashion magazine cover.

Matte Painting

From Ashes to Ashes

To find new minerals, a mining company had been drilling for years in the heart of Tokyo. However, they ignore the fact that the land they had been drilling is a sacred place to a forgotten Volcanic god in ancient times. As the mining team dug deeper and deeper, they unknowingly broke the seal and released the ancient god. The volcanic god awakes from a long slumber with a grudge and vengeance. The ground start shaking, buildings collapsing and the ground cracking open as the lava poured like a river from the stomach of the earth.

Mercato De Fiori

Unlike the other European city, the air in Venezia was filled with the sweet scent of blooms. Here, we can find any kind of flower from delicate orchids to a pile of cheerful pink peonies. But, it's not just the beauty of the flowers that draws people to the market. It's the intricate steam-powered machinery that powers the market's operations.

Wishing Well

A temple at the top of a mountain in China’s region holds a magical power on the water, when people toss their coins into it and wish, it said that the wish would be granted as long as the person has a pure heart. The wishing well is famous for blessing couples with a harmonious relationship

Manaratan

On the ocean of golden sand in the Middle East civilization, Stand a grand Lighthouse that will guide sand sailor throughout the pitch black night in the desert. The lighthouse is also a sanctuary for the sailor from the dangerous creature that lies beneath the dune, they will find protection and warmth at this place.
