Hey, I'm Satchit, a concept artist - I just graduated from FZD this year and I'm sharing my projects that helped my progress a lot in my craft. I implement a blend of 2D and 3D tools to create my designs - hope you guys dig them!

Introduction

The following works are from my time at FZD under the guidance of Feng Zhu, Kingston Chan and Darius Cheong - the projects include environment and prop designs. I learnt a lot during each project - workflow, design principles, art aesthetics, technical skills and much more.

Process

I implement software's like Blender for building 3D and Photoshop for all things 2D art related. I try to block-out as much as possible after getting my initial design sketches approved, after that I spend time texturing in 3D or sometimes within Photoshop by photo-bashing and painting over, finally I take my render passes and paint in other details, lighting and mood with reference of course!

I've had my fair share of stumbles on these projects but that's what it took for me to learn and push myself! Also I just love this doing this stuff - hope you dig the designs! :)

The Ghost King

Based on the works of David Gemmell's Ghost King. In my design of the series, this world follows the form of a stealth-action video game set in mid 17th century France, on the cusp of the Revolution.

Culain's Apartment

In Culain's apartment his obsession with human flight can be seen all over, he has a corner where he experiments with various chemical constitutions for an efficient gaseous explosive, a desk where he uses his messenger pigeons to gather intel through his unique network and a tinkerer's corner where he's building his latest crossbow contraption.

The Palace Study

A puzzle room -- there are symbols etched all over to help solve the cosmic riddle surrounding Dupont's Egg which holds the Bloodstone Ring. The Bloodstone contains an unimaginable amount of power however it requires sacrifices and also corrupts it’s user over time.

Rosalie's Parlour

At Rosalie's Parlour, players interacts with various NPC's and can takes on extra quests from the Request Board. The Parlour acts as a Hub area in the world, a safe zone.

The Long Journey

Another fun project, this time a repurposed helicopter was designed around. I did this project on a treasure hunter that's in search for a long lost treasure with Cuba being the backdrop. The vehicle itself has a set of basic interactable areas that further expand into many more once in the campsite stage; workbench, planning area, firepit, locker, kitchen, collectables space, land traversal options, journal and a place to rest/save.

The Laundry Files

The Laundry Files is a series of novels by British writer Charles Stross. They mix the genres of spy thriller, science fiction, and horror. In my design of the series, the world is built out to be a stealth action video game - where the Agency, a secretive government organization, fight against all that try to bring harm to the balance of the world.

 Angleton's Office

The office works as an intel gathering and briefing room, where agents plan and discuss their approach to missions

The Agency Armory

The armory functions as a loadout area with a level-up station where agents can prepare to be best equipped for the mission at hand

The Mabuse Lab

The lab is the evil lair that agents must infiltrate and put a stop to the illegal activity surrounding the Jennifer Morgue

The Hunters

A short project on the duality of a hero, focusing on their lair and living quarters. I chose to take Art Deco as a theme - a reflection of the wealth and affluence of the character. Hunting creatures by night and trading stocks in the morning - Money Never Sleeps!

Conclusion

These are just a few projects of mine, but I do have more stuff up on my Artstation. I'm glad I studied at FZD and learnt from the best in the industry, as well as meeting all my talented classmates who constantly inspired and pushed me to be better than I was yesterday! I feel well equipped to take my first steps in the industry - started to freelance and hope to be AAA down the line. Until then, I'll keep at it :)
