MUNDANE

MUNDANE is my solo-project thesis film created at Dawson College's 3D Animation and CGI program in Montreal.

It all started with an MS Paint drawing! I wanted the film to be packed with visual character. The liminal quality of laundromats really lent itself to that.

All animation, rigs, models and textures were created by yours truly! This film has been a blast, but was a TON of work. I've learned a lot - Bayo and Fennec (left to right) have been the focus of my creative drive for a hot minute now. I'm thrilled to have seen their story to completion.

As with anything, there were many challenges. Creating Bayo's tail was one of the most interesting to overcome. I needed a rig that would simplify the animating I had to do, but also allowed me full and precise control.

Other challenges included Fennec's "2D" face rig, which makes use of shrink wrapped geo constrained to a hidden mask, as well as Fennec's shirt rig, which uses dynamic blendshapes to retain its shape.

Here's a peak at the environment in different stages! Creating it was one of my favorite parts of production.

And that's it! A year of work condensed into two minutes of film. I'm so proud of the final result and can't wait to bring life into new projects moving forward.

Hope you enjoyed it,
Ellie
