Breakdowns

I started the project by gathering references for the tank and organizing the UVs. I also created quick selection groups by material in Maya.

I then moved on to  the displacement and bump affecting the overall shape of the tank, and high frequency bump not driven by diffuse. Following closely to reference, I used Zbrush for any dents at the corners of the tank and large shape changes to the tank. Substance Designer was used to create maps to drive the smaller displacements on the flat surface, such as the smaller dents, weldings, and zimmerit. To minimize the displacement inflating the shape of the geo I adjusted the values in Mari.

I used Mari to create most of the diffuse map, matching as close to reference as possible. Using a mainly procedural workflow and some hand painting to breakup the shapes. I also went back to Designer to create more masks to drive the textures for paint chips, grunge etc.

Again, most of the reflection glossiness and specular maps was created in Mari. Substance Painter was used to create the fine dust layer and specular breakup. Look dev and final render was done using Vray.
