Neat

As all compulsively organized girl Somin is finishing her art project, she receives the magic boots that starts to mess up her tidy room, but her art project as well.

"Neat" is a drama and fantasy genre film. We want the audience to get attached emotionally and entertained by watching the film. We assume there would be many people with a compulsion to be perfect, being harsh on themselves. Even if we reach perfection, we will keep looking for a flaw inside it.

Throughout this film, we want the audience to seek the beauty in imperfection and give a bit of space to be loose.

Concept Art

We tried to contrast Somin and the Boots through various elements. Somin's room and herself are desaturated and neat. However, the Boots represent vibrant yellow to show playfulness. 

We also wanted to show how her life has been looser through color. As she meets the Boots, the color becomes more saturated and warm.

Artwork

Somin is an art student that strives for photorealistic drawing. She likes everything neat, almost compulsively. She works tirelessly to make every detail of her drawing perfect.

After the paint is all over her drawing, somehow the paint was harmonizing with the drawing. This kicks her awake to the beauties of imperfection and a universe of seeing things from other angles.

Bookending

We showed the same shots repeated but with new compositions, like re-opening the film but in a new way to indicate her change.
