Hello everyone!

I’m glad to show you the reel of my VFX Compositing MA in “Animum Creativity Advanced School”. When I started using The Foundry Nuke for the first time, 6 months ago, I remember myself being lost, because even though I have been working with softwares like After Effects, Premiere or Photoshop a lot of years, Nuke is something completely different. Working with nodes offers unimaginable possibilities, but It may be something a little difficult to understand at the beginning. I must admit that the path has been intense, but very productive in the end, so I want to share with all of you the results of my effort.

Everything started doing basic tasks, like rotoscoping, keying, tracking and interacting with the project camera.

Keying:

Rotoscopy:

Tracking:

Project Camera (3D):

Once we saw all the basics, the next step was CGI compositing. A lot of CGI compositing shots has been made during the Master, for example the first was called “Cat Girl”, which combined techniques like keying, CGI Compositing and grading:

Afterwards, the next goal was controlling what I think is the most complicated labor within the composition field: the integration. I like the shot that I'm about to show you, not only due to the way It looks, but also because I had to implement a technique which is very required in junior compositors: cleaning up. Besides, this shot includes camera tracking (3D) and of course, integrating.

Finished the first part of the Master, we started making more difficult shots like “digital makeup and beauty”, mixing a lot of new and old techniques:

With this second part of the Master, I did not only learn a lot of new skills but also improved the basic techniques that you need to have as a compositor. Morphing; Particles; Matte painting and more clean ups, rotoscopy, tracking, camera tracking… Absolutely everything.

Matte Painting and Clean up:

For the "Crime scene" shot, I had to clean up the hole on the left and the window on the background. Besides, tracking the briefcase and adding the "FBI" logo was part of the compo too. On the other hand, the blood and satanic symbols were made in Photoshop with blood textures and painting. The candles and the pot are CGI.

Morphing:

As a horror film lover, the vampire's shot is one of my favourites, but It has been really difficult to make. Shaping the mouth was really challenging, because I had to make it look real and try to not deform the chin and the mouth contour. Also, the veins and all the "make up" on the actress's face was made with Adobe Photoshop and applied later with SmartVectors on Nuke.

Particles:

In this shot I had to use the "modelbuilder" node for recreating the buildings, so that the snow generated on nuke "collide" with them and avoid It from running through the buildings.

Furthermore, another example is the use of the camera tracking and "pointcloudgenerator", which gives a wide variety of possibilities when it comes to compositing:

Everything is very summarized and there’s a lot of shots that I am not showing in this post, otherwise It will take too long. This 6 months have been enriching and productive in my career. I love compositing and I only think about improving my skills every day. I would like to end my post expressing my gratitude to my mentors Guillermo García and Octavio Alonso, for advising me in this journey and helping me to find my dream job.

Thanks for watching.
