Hello, I am a 3d Character Artist with a passion for realism, horror, and video games. Please take a look at my journey as a recent graduate as I follow my passions creating art the best way I can. Here I showcase my understanding in human anatomy, creature anatomy, and human facial anatomy and expressions.

My Portfolio - Crystal Rose

Hello, my name is Crystal Rose and I am a 3d Character Artist. I recently graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Computer Animation and learned the fundamentals of the game art pipeline. I am a fan of horror, realism, and video games and I would like to showcase my most recent projects in my portfolio. I've had a lot of fun with these pieces and will share my process throughout this post. Thank you for visiting my page and I hope you enjoy my presentation. :)

Stinger - Back4Blood Fan-art

This is a project that took me a few months to finish. This model is based of concept from Game Developer, Gue Yang. I chose this concept to showcase my skills in realism and understanding of human and creature anatomy. I love the destruction of the skin and the intensity of this creature. It's both feminine and grotesque and very well resembles creatures seen in the Left4Dead game franchise which is a game I loved to play growing up.

This model and its garment were sculpted in Zbrush and the environment models are scans sourced from Quixel.

After my forms are sculpted in Zbrush, I export my model into Maya for retopology, UVs, and to apply Material IDs for texturing. I hand painted most textures in Substance 3D painter, I feel hand painting textures achieves a more natural look than solely relying on generators. While I still use generators, they are to help guide my workflow in the right direction.

After I am finished painting my textures, I transferred all files into Marmoset Toolbag for rendering. Marmoset is where I applied SSS and Ray-tracing and plugged in my maps. Once I choose my desired resolution I render out my images and work my way into Photoshop where I polish and set up my presentation for my work.

Zelda Bust

This is a passion project that is a work in progress. The Legend of Zelda is one of my favorite video game franchises next to Doom. My favorite Legend of Zelda game is A Link to the Past however this model is Princess Zelda from Twilight Princess. I admire the maturity seen in her character and is my choice of reference for this project.

My vision for this project is to have her textured as Ganon's Puppet with the shadow overcoming her current form. Here is a video showing the scene for context.

I aim to capture the raw emotion of pain and anguish.

Twilight Princess focuses on a much more mature story than most Legend of Zelda games which is why I am inspired by it.

My next step is to finish the rest of the hard surface modeling in Maya. Once all modeling is complete I will being creating and placing hair cards on her head and use Xgen for other hair such as eyelashes, eyebrows, and peach fuzz. Next I will follow the necessary workflow to work my way in texturing. This will be done in Substance 3D Painter. I anticipate rendering this project in Maya using either Arnold or Pixar's Renderman.

Overall I am very excited for this project and look forward to its final outcome.

Ring Box

My final project to present is showcasing one of my favorite hobbies- 3D printing!

This is a ring box I created as a surprise box. I wanted to create a very intricate box that is feminine and delicate. My design has two compartments. The first compartment is a large lid where you can store items such as notes, flowers, or whatever your heart desires (at least if it will fit). The second compartment is a smaller hidden space intended to store a ring.

I found a wooden box online where I drew inspiration for the design. The top of the lid features roses which is significant to my middle name Rose. I love this box although it needs some attention and redesigning for aesthetic and practical application.

This is a draft I created in photoshop.

Here I would like to show the two separate compartments of my box as well as showcase the details.

This model is intended for PLA printing which means some details must be taken into consideration for supports and overhangs. I wanted to make this as support free as possible and promote full printing in one run (depending on the print bed size and dimensions of the print). This model is painted in a cool grey to represent the natural color PLA I currently own and show what this would look like with primer for painting.

Thank you for viewing my post!
