Round of applause for our sponsors

Here are two characters i made on Graduation at RADE

The big goal with these character was to make realistic characters made after other peoples concept as i had a bad habit of making my own concept in the past. I also wanted to create a wrokflow that whould speed up my creation. everything to better prepare myself for the industry

Flower Monk

The first character is Flower Monk Concept made by : Mr. Y

I wanted to focus on making a workflow that whould be fast and efficent so i used metahuman and customized it to get as close as i could in the metahuman creator then doing big shape changes in blender and detail work in zbrush, also using 3dscanstore head scans to get a quick head skin texture to save time.

All hair except the eyelashes was made in Houdini. i used a combination of a method that was taught in a master class at BFX by Kristin Farrensteiner and the houdini tutorials "Grooming Barry Bacon". the hair layers were (peach fuzz, moustache, beard, beard stray, shaved head, eyebrows and body hair.

exported curves out of houdini and used geometry nodes in blender to give them geometry and thickness.

Ranger

The Second character Concept made by: Brandt Andrist

The Ranger was the second character and I used alot of the same techniques that I had been testing with the first character except this time with alot more hardsurface work

I Documented the creation of Ranger on artstation on a weekly basis for those intrested. https://www.artstation.com/fenrinos/blog

The main intrest in my oppinion are:

Realistic yet efficent eyes by using Paralax Occlusion

The key here is to only apply the paralax occlusion to the color and not the roughness that way you get the look of double layred mesh

Decals with Paralax Oclusion to keep both textures and geometry down while still getting high level of detail
