This is my interpretation in 3D of the card Saul de Navarette, done by Mauro Belfiore from Gwent, Syndicate expansion. This is my Foundation Term final project for Think Tank Training Center.

Round of applause for our sponsors

To start the project I had to create a camera with an image plane in order to adjust the perspective to the concept. Afterwards, it was a matter of getting some stuff into the scene so I could tweak camera focal length and the f/stop. All of this is done inside the Vray physical camera attributes.

After everything is blocked out, I sculpted what needed more detail inside Zbrush such as; clothing, the character, etc. The main character, Saul, needed me to work in high detail to get pores and wrinkles in. I did this with alpha maps and the standard brush set to drag. Afterwards I retopologized the models, and did their UVs.

Now I chose to work inside Substance Painter. As such I separated the models by texture sets and imported them as .fbx. I got them in groups into Susbtance so things that are similar could be textured at the same time, such as wood, metals, etc.

Finally, I got everything back into Maya to set it up in Vray. First I got the textures in, and after that I matched the lighting with diferent directional lights. When I felt the light matched, I set all the displacement maps made either in Substance or exported directly from Zbrush. After troubleshooting for a while, it was time to render.

When the render was done, I took it to photoshop for some finishin touch ups and it was all set.

I enjoyed this project a lot, specially because I have always been  a big CdRed fan, and the concept I chose came from the game Gwent. So this for me, was kinda like paying homage to the amazin work the studio does.
