Hello everyone! My name is Giacomo aka Paul Various.

This is my entry for The Rookie Awards 2023, representing BigRock Istitute of Magic Technologies. I took care of all aspects of the model from the sculpting to the final render.

Check out the whole post to discover my working process!

Based on the concept "TAHK" by Taran Fiddler, I started sculpting this character during my master in CG at BigRock Insitute of Magic Technologies. As assignment, I prepared the whole model in Zbrush.

After the delivery I decided to pick up where I left and create a worthy presentation by texturing it on Substance Painter and rendering it with Arnold.

I proceeded by doing the retopology of the Lowpoly model from which I got the UVs.

The character has been textured in Substance Painter using a combination of procedural tools and brush painting.

I spent a lot of time trying to get the most realistic result for the skin.

Below you can see the wireframe and different layers I created to achieve the Subderma effect.

Once ready, I used the model in Substance Painter as the High Poly to bake all the necessary maps such as AO, Normal, Curvature, Thickness and all the others maps which have proved to be very useful during the texturing process.

I rendered the character with Arnold Render in Maya experimenting with different settings and lighting until I got the desired result.

After that I composited the various maps diffuse, specular, sss, zdepth and the background in photoshop.

A huge shout out to my teachers at BigRock for their support and guidance throughout the all process.
