Aliferous
In a world occupied by anthropomorphic birds, two brothers travel the skies on their flying boat in pursuit of a giant flying whale. The situation becomes dangerous when they follow the whale into a storm, where the siblings are forced to confront how the chase has affected their sibling dynamic.

This film is directed by Delaney Bala, Jason Hong, and Markus Yu as a three part thesis where each individual was lead of a specific part of the pipeline. Delaney Bala is head of story and helped direct where the plot and character motivations would go; Jason Hong is animation and lighting lead, especially when it came to character acting; and Markus Yu is visual development and texture lead (aka the look of the film). Delaney Bala and Alvise Carraro worked on compositing and sound editing, Jason Hong did animation clean up and final animation notes, and Markus Yu created all cloud assets, 2d effects, and textures.
Below is a compilation of work from the preproduction packet, including but limited to: visual development, storyboarding, and modelling tests.
VISUAL DEVELOPMENT
STORYBOARD
We worked on this film from 2021 to 2023-- Delaney, as our story head, did a lot of the directing and story notes that Markus and Jason followed. We ironed out the pace within block out stage, but this was where the actual film started to slowly come to life.
MODEL TESTS
First pass modelling and texture work for our characters. All textures are done by Markus Yu. Yan (the small white owl) is modeled and rigged by Delaney Bala, Eld (the bigger brown owl) is modeled and rigged by Jason Hong, and the whale is modeled by Markus Yu and rigged by Jason Hong. All face rigs are cleaned by Delaney Bala.
Both camera and boat are modeled and rigged by Jason Hong.
