In a school run by machine, students must perform better than the others, or they will be pushed into a giant toilet and flushed away. A girl who had lost the game miraculously comes back from the sewage, to challenge the top student for a duel, and they fall in the infinite competition of nihility...
Introduction
OFF THE BOX is an action-packed animated 4-minute short film. The film addresses the high suicide rate among students and young adults caused by the violence of positivity – the pressure to constantly stay positive and outperform others. It raises a question to the audience: How can we define and accept our values in the new disciplines created by competitive, performance-oriented, and tool-rational approaches in an era of machines, algorithms, and AI?
Interactive Experience
OFF THE BOX is also a gamified narrative experience project involving Web AR/VR and hand gesture detection. By decoding information and solving puzzles from clues hidden in the film, audiences will find a password to open a website. As a result, they will be added to the invitation list of THE BOX as a gesture of gratitude to early audiences.
