3D Environment Art & Props Art: 2022-2023

by Oceane on 5 May 2023 for Rookie Awards 2023

I’m an Environment Art student at Artside School and this is my entry for The Rookie 2023 ! Inside this entry you will find full environments, a diorama and handpainted props that I made during 2022 and 2023. Hope you like it as much as I enjoyed making it !

Round of applause for our sponsors

Hi everyone, so inside this entry you will see projects with different styles, some stylized or realistic. I love to learn many things and I’m interested to be comfortable in any genre (even if I have a little preference for the stylized). For the future I really want to be a Freelancer and hope to have the chance to work on many different projects.

Hope you like my work !

Library Temple

This project was completed in about 7 weeks for a masterclass supervised by Lionel Cregut.

I really wanted to create an old sacred library and try to give a sense of epicness to it. I decided to make everything by myself, including the composition which was quite a challenge. I had to do a lot of research for the design of the architecture and also for the additional modules scattered in the environment..

For this project; I used Blender for modeling and Uvs, Unreal Engine 5, Zbrush, Substance Designer and Painter for the textures.

To give a feeling of volume on the floor and walls without importing a highly subdivided model, I set up a POM shader (Parallax Occlusion Mapping) and some cap meshes to fake the effect. To add details I also implemented a Vertex Paint shader to paint in or out a different tiling texture on desired surfaces.

The biggest difficulty I encountered on this project was the composition, as well as the lighting and atmosphere. The fog cards and the post process added a lot to my scene to add depth and a better color grading.

I also wanted to thank Lionel Cregut again for helping me a lot with his feedback.

Modular Assets & Textures

Wizard's House

This diorama was made in about 5 weeks on Unreal Engine 5, underthe supervision of Camille Delmeule. It is based on the magnificent concept of https://www.artstation.com/artwork/nQV5eK.

I oriented this project with a handpainted stylized look.

I sculpted almost all my assets on ZBrush, which I then retopologized and baked. My texture base was done on Substance Painter and then switched to 3D Coat for the Hand Painted side. The sculpt was a big part of this project, it had to be pushed enough to give me a lot of information that helped me to get the right values for the handpaint.

Handpainted Swords

Once again this project was done during my training, in a handpainted masterclass with Lucile Thyrard. The modeling was done on Blender and the textures on 3D Coat. It is based on the fabulous concept of Moniek Schilder.

Many thanks to Lucile Thyriard who taught me a lot during this module.

Realistic Substance Designer Textures

I made these textures during a masterclass supervised by Paolo Boissel. We had to create realistic textures on Substance Designer.
