Here is a collection of some of my favourite projects from my 1 year in 3dsense Media School

This is my Showreel!

Hi, Dom here! I am happy to showcase my projects compiled over the year 2022. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed creating each and everyone one of them. I hope you’ll enjoy it!

Initial D

A homage to this classic anime. A show about a young delivery boy who goes on to become a drift-racing legend. My goal was to use vibrant and animated colours to convey the excitement I felt while watching the action-packed scenes when I was a kid. A modern cinematic interpretation with quick cuts and movements that retains a hint of the classic cel-shading style.

Software
Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Substance Painter, Adobe Aftereffects, Maxon Cinema4D and Maxon Redshift.

On the left are car models that I got online. I used substance painter to re-texture them by hand painting.

Japan 2022

Endless Beauty, Endless Discovery. In this unofficial TV Commercial Project, JNTO, also known as Japan National Tourism Organization, was chosen as our brand. We were heavily influenced by the style of illustrator James Gilleard and Chromosphere, but we also wanted to add our own spin to the project and recreate the atmosphere found in such works within a 3D space.

Credits
James - Art Director, Storyboarder and 2D Lead.
Me - Animation Director, 3D Lead and Vis Dev Artist.

Software
Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Aftereffects, Maxon Cinema4D and Maxon Redshift.

Our process began with storyboards, then progressed to colour sketches, and finally to fully rendered styleframes. This iterative process was by far the trickiest to nail down, and we spent a significant amount of time refining each iteration before reaching our desired outcome.

D for Dance Dance Revolution

The 36-Day Type Challenge! I’m a big fan of rhythm games, especially analogue ones. With its arcade-style colour palette and design, this was a great opportunity to experiment with a more quirky and retro style, particularly in 3D.

Software
Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Aftereffects, Maxon Cinema4D and Maxon Redshift.

PlayDate

A dad and his 2 sons' group effort. Unofficial Brand Video, GUI Project.

Credits
Pharaon - Team Leader, 2D Designer, GUI Designer and Project Manager.

James - 3D Art Director, 3D Animator, Texture Artist, Lighting Artist, Compositor and Storyboarder.

Me - 2D Art Director, 2D Animator and Sound Designer.

Software
Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Aftereffects, Maxon Cinema4D and Maxon Redshift.

Dylan Iwakuni

An unofficial Channel Branding Project completed for Dylan Iwakuni, a YouTuber who uses ASMR to demonstrate his skills in woodworking and wood joinery. My objective was to emphasize the craft of woodworking and wood joinery by creating satisfying, precise, and clean motions. Motion and Design were inspired heavily by Ordinary Folk. Exploring more complex expressions in After Effects, particularly trigonometry, has enabled me to create a distinct feel for the overall motion. I've added sound effects to complement the overall ASMR mood, which also plays a big role in his channel identity.

Software

Adobe After Effects.
