Game Character - Målingen

“Born From Bones: Målingen” was originally a nameless concept from a collection of personal works by Korean artist MamBa. A lifelong fan of horror and grotesque imagery, it was love-at-first sight when I came across it on ArtStation whilst looking for a concept to use for my game character project.

MamBa and I came up with the name for the character together. She was also extremely supportive of my work–liking and commenting on my progress posts on Instagram. Her willingness to pay attention to an amateur 3D artist such as myself played a huge role in my drive and desire to make Målingen a 3D model I–and hopefully MamBa herself–could ultimately be proud of.

The support I received from my mentors and classmates at 3DSense was also crucial to the completion of Målingen. It was a fun albeit gruelling journey, the memories of which I would not trade for anything in the world.

Game Environment - The Basement

The Basement caught my attention as an environment concept due to its strong storytelling elements.

Why does this basement look like an operating room, a whole living space and a storage room simultaneously? Who lives (or lived) here? Why does the operating chair have a neck plug system? What happened in this universe that led to humans having mechanical components in their bodies? Are these people even human?

I greatly enjoyed working on this 3D environment. It was certainly a very tough journey that I definitely would not have been able to pull off if I didn’t have the unwavering support and guidance of my mentor, Venny Lie, at 3DSense.
