3D Game Modelling - Nero and the Sci-Fi Apartment

Hello, I'm Jaaziah, a 3D artist from Singapore with a passion for digital art. I joined 3dsense Media School and graduated with a Diploma in Game Art in March 2023. Here are some of my projects from my 1 year of hard work!

I made my first 3D character based on the concept ‘Nero’ by Jude Smith (here), as part of a character art assignment under the guidance of Program Director Julian Khor.

I gathered references for the props from real life, as well as ZBrush matcap grey renders for sculpting.

A mood-board filled with inspirations from Star Wars and other Sci-fi characters were also made.

Nero is a character with many props. Modeling and texturing everything from scratch proved to be challenging and fun at the same time.

I modeled all hard surface objects in Maya, and the organics (human, cloth, etc.) in ZBrush. The coat was the only piece made with Marvelous Designer. Haircards and feathers were all placed in Maya.

The total tricount for this character is 124k tris.

Here are some render passes of Nero, as well as a 360° view in Marmoset and ZBrush respectively.

Under the guidance of Senior Mentor Venny Lie, I made my first 3D environment based off Raul Rosell’s Sci-fi Apartment (here).

I learned how to create trimsheets and tileables, which I used extensively throughout this environment. 500+ decals were used to add variation to albedo, roughness and metallic passes.
