The Story Behind 'Corrupted'

Working on 'Corrupted' was an exciting ride for everyone at the Academy, taking us out of our comfort zone and really pushing our creative boundaries. We wanted to shake things up a bit in the cyberpunk genre, so we ditched the typical neo-Tokyo and neo-LA settings and decided to place our story in neo-Venice. This let us play around with various architectural styles and build a whole new world from scratch.

We had fun world building to create the unique atmosphere of neo-Venice. We wanted a place that was an amalgam of different cultures, but with some new religions in there as well. In the background you can see a giant robot idol. We wanted to explore this side of the story more but we’re happy it adds to the background texture.

Our 'Robot Scientist' character turned out to be a real showstopper in terms of design. It's creepy yet stunning, and the porcelain details are beautiful. Animating it was quite a challenge, but thanks to one of the animators (James Delaney) great idea to make it move like a spider, everything clicked into place.

The story itself started with the idea of a shady detective going into a senator's mind to delete her memory of accepting a bribe. We had a ton of ideas for how to tell this story, but the real challenge was figuring out how to cram all that into just five minutes. We're pretty happy with how it turned out, though!

'Corrupted' is definitely the biggest and most ambitious project students have tackled at the Academy to date. We had more shots and assets than ever before, and it was definitely a hard process. But in the end, we're super proud of what we've created.

We really hope you enjoy watching our film as much as we enjoyed making it. So, grab some popcorn, sit back, and get ready to be transported to the world of 'Corrupted'!
