Lise Marin - Concept art and Illustrations

My work tend to be mostly illustrative and splash art oriented. That's why I separated it to fit my different workflows and purpose.

Concept Art

Elementary

The purpose was to create an evolving elementary based on our own researches and render the texture realisticly. I choose the cinnabar stone which is a kind of solid mercury / chrome like. It was really interesting to make.

Playing cards

Illustrations for a school project. The main purpose was to draw 3 characters from the same card' symbol and playing around the Jack, queen and king. Inspiration from venecian folklore and carnival atmosphere.

Original characters

I designed for myself few characters that I keep developing throught the years.  

Euphonie

She's a poisoner, and my very first original character. Every illustration I made for her turn out so blue and intense, I really love this elegant and cold ambiant she creates. Her face has nothing to hide, she wore her mask only to protect herself from the toxic spores and gases she uses. Bold of you if you confront her.

Aiden and Arson

I wanted to give a shot to a polished illustration like riot' splash art I admired. Left to right, Arson and Aiden, two main characters of a webcomic project I had in mind for a while. (in my 2020 artworks). This couple is a real deal for me, as in their overall aesthetic(s) and the alchemy between them. They are part of an underground mafia network as spy or mercenary. They have to assume some risky infiltrations around rich politicians and fancy-well-manered world. They pretend to be a rich couple even though they're distant and have contrasted personnalities.

Méïs
This piece came to me when I was a bit worried about my "perfectionist" workflow. I was loosing the rough, dynamic and interesting shapes from the sketch / original idea. That's why I tried to reconcile myself with my sketches energy and maybe get rid of my "not enough smooth /polished" thoughts. This character was even more a perfect fit for this exercice, a berserker with unconventionnal anatomy and battle style. Quite strange at first but not unefficient nor uninteresting.

- 2022 - Two illustrations I made for a french art contest on twitter. The main goal was to create illustrations based on a specific theme. In order, the first one was related to "Sacred" theme and the second one for "Speed". This was an opportunity to add my own characters into them (Canopus and Nävis).

Graphic Illustrations

The illustration above was made in 2020 and I'm still amazed how it aged so much better than certain recent pieces that I'm already tired of. I randomly made an efficient style that I reuse sometimes, with more or less success, but is still really interesting to make.
