Awakening
I created all these assets during my education, for assignments and as passion projects. Once I graduated I managed to put it all together and create this short cinematic. The idea was never to make this guy the hero, but rather just a servant. His commander- and a sequel is a work in progress!
Awakening
I created everything in this video from scratch (except from the music which is from a Blizzard Cinematic), using several different softwares and techniques along the way. Final, render in Maya using Arnold.
Compositing and post FX in Nuke
I rebuilt my scene combining various passes and several layers. Using ZDepth and motion vectors I added both depth of field and motion blur in post to save render time. I was able to achieve the glowing runes effect by manipulated the emission pass rendered separately with a film back offset. Also, a few glow effects here and there and quite heavily colour graded
Assets
I have designed, modeled and textured all assets which has been an ongoing process throughout my three years of studies. I have updated the assets continuously as I have progressed as an artist. One of the latest additions is the slime generated in Houdini.
Custom Rig and keyframe animation
I created an IK rig for the skeleton and axe in Maya. I recorded a video of myself lifting a broom stick for reference and tried to replicate the same movements on the skeleton, also in Maya.
