Sclash, OHKO fighting game, art & animations

Hey there I'm Bastien BERNAND a French artist & game maker trying to shape the worlds of my mind through art & games! I graduated with a game design bachelor's and am self-taught in art & animation, here is a collection of my work on personal and team projects throughout the recent years :)

We recently finished our studies and are continuing our one-hit KO samurai fighting game Sclash as indies (No company or money, still self-teaching ourselves) with 3 mates.

I am in charge of most of the graphics part of the game, I make the character animations, environments, and rendering in Unity of the levels with the lighting & shaders, take care of the painterly graphic style, and also make the illustrations, promotional materials, animations for the trailer... I also helped with the character designs.
But I also take care of game design alongside my teammates as well as development in Unity.

CHARACTERS ANIMATIONS

I made the animations of the characters by filming myself doing the movements and then using it as a reference for most of the animations in Clip Studio Paint. Making the movements, then using skeletal parts to move the limbs more easily and painting over some stuff, clothes, and painterly elements, on each frame, and then bringing them together in Unity, adding the weapons, FX, lighting, and code, was the process.

SCLASH ENVIRONMENTS

I am in charge of setting up and polishing the rendering of the playable stages in the game as well as creating new painterly environments both for the duel and campaign mode. Creating assets and using Eloïse's I set up the color scheme, lighting, FX, and shaders, and make sure every centimeter works during the fights and the dramatic screen. These are the real-time 2.5D environments in Unity 3D with post-processing. The dramatic screen versions of the stages were sometimes their own environments, having to replace new objects, set activation conditions and new shaders to have a cool look.

SCLASH TRAILER & ANIMATIONS

I am in charge of the promotional materials such as trailers, for the latest trailer I decided to make some cool animations to enhance the tension and professional look of the video, for the characters, and for the title of the game. I used Clip Studio Paint for all of them and am very proud with the quality of these.

SCLASH CHARACTERS DESIGN  & ILLUSTRATIONS

I helped with finalizing the design of the characters of Sclash together with Eloïse GUR and then proceeded to make their in-game illustrations.

I want to thank my teammates on Sclash and also thank fellow artist friends who help me progress and stay motivated :) I still have a long way to go to learn the skills I want but I can probably make it.
