My submission for the Rookies 2022; a girl sits on a bench in the park and has a little fun by manipulating leaves with a little magic.
VFX Rookies Submission 2022
The Goal
For this project, I was inspired by films such as Hero, House of Flying Daggers and more recently, Shang Chi, and wanted to focus on having an actor manipulate leaf assets using a live action plate.
This involved simulating the manipulation of the leaves and generation of magic wind element in Houdini, doing simple look development on the leaves (given motion/focus blur of elements) in Subtance Painter, and final compositing in Nuke.

Notes
Development of this project continues to enhance elements in order to deliver a tighter, final product. Some have already been implemented but not rendered at this time. This includes more leaves being manipulated in the air; the 'ball' tightening over time; and slightly reduced impact of magic wind on ground layer.
