COCO

This project was created as part of my 2nd year Major Assessment for Digital Matte Painting at CDW Studios.

We were challenged to pick a scene from an animated movie and bring it to life in our matte painting for a 'live action remake'. 

The vibrant colours of the Disney Pixar movie "Coco" caught my attention and inspired me to recreate my own version of the market/plaza scene.

Below are a few weekly progress shots and my Photoshop patches before projecting and compositing in Nuke.

Using a less traditional approach to matte painting, majority of the work was done using Blender, including concept/block out, modelling and texturing.

The sequence was rendered out in Cycles and a paint over was done in Photoshop. Finally the shot was composited in Nuke to achieve the end result.
