Telling stories

This is where it all begins. This is about creating images, obviously, but also about telling something with them.

FIRST STEPS

Although I have long been curious about all this, it is only now that I have become involved in order to grow in this exciting world. At Butic The New School I am learning the importance of taking care of details, building quality textures and using lighting to dramatize scenes, but above all I am learning that images have more relevance when they tell a story and awaken feelings and sensations. The technical part acquires value if it conveys emotion. These are my first steps.

Catalan Coast

"In a village on the Catalan coast, some craftsmen store some ceramic pieces. The winter afternoon is cold and wet, in spite of this it feels like going out to behold the sea"

In this practice the objective was to recreate a characteristic Mediterranean atmosphere, using a blue chromaticism. The humidity and cold are reflected on the walls and window panes. The last rays of afternoon sunlight enter through the window creating a subtle volumetric light. A simple and pleasant composition.

Abandoned Pool

"Almost all of us were once in a forbidden place doing what we shouldn´t be doing, right?"

In this scene I have worked with materials that have suffered deterioration due to neglect and the passage of time. The volumetric light helps to create a dramatic atmosphere along with the rest of the elements.

Before the abandonment

Lost Youth

"Francisco Macarro Castillo, artistically known as Marcos Ana, was a poet and communist affiliate who was unjustly convicted at the age of 19 for a false homicide during the Franco era in Spain. He spent 15 of the 22 years of his sentence in a cell like this one where literature helped him survive. His poems were published clandestinely and had great repercussions and led to his freedom due to popular pressure, specifically from other great poets of the time such as Rafael Alberti and Pablo Neruda"

The image tries to express a desolate scene where the light focuses the poetry as the only thread of hope.

The Lake House

"The sun streaming through the window made him fall asleep and when he woke up he refused to get stuck with the cell phone. It was a better plan to go for a walk along the lake shore".

The practice was about representing one of the senses. Through the touch of the cushion, using hair and fur, and the lighting offering a warm atmosphere I tried to achieve a moment of comfort. The materials show the contrast between rough and soft finishes. I also wanted to practice with field blur.
