Hi, I'm Alex, recent Honours graduate from CDW Studios/Flinders University. These are some of my most recent projects that I have worked on.

Round of applause for our sponsors

Lady Knight

The first model is the armoured figure dubbed "Lady Knight" by her creator @RiceisGood on Twitter. My main focus for Lady Knight was my handpainting.

I had decided early on I would tackle this without PBR, despite metal being notoriously fickle when it came to handpainted models I was up to the challenge. Though I chose in this case to focus on her torso.

The high poly was baked into the diffuse in Substance Painter and used to supplement additional details, particularly the hair/fur and armour.

Originally Lady Knight had a more generic lighting scheme - but after getting some advice I ended up pushing the painted lighting to a far more dynamic point.

SCP-096 "Shy Guy"

The second model is the horrific figure known as SCP-096 "Shy Guy"

This character has had a slew of interpretations and I went with a more realistic take. I spent a considerable amount of time focusing on the surface details and making him more optimised than the models I was taking inspiration from.

For this piece I chose to make a diorama for 096: A dilapidated room, speckled with pools of blood and adorned with decay fitting of the SCP Foundation.

The rendering/lighting was done in Marmoset. I wanted it to look as if the viewer had stumbled upon 096 and shone their flashlight at him.

Deer Teacher

The final model is the character referred to as "Deer Teacher" by @Tos_TanTan.

The biggest challenges of this model was imitating Tos' painting style, as well as interpreting the character's proportions from limited sources.

The inverted hull outline method was used to achieve the lineart look.

I tried to make the pose as similar to the original concept as I could, I created a character rig in Maya to assist this process.

The references provided, whilst fantastically made, have Deer Teacher's proportions vary - so I worked with the proportions I found most pleasing - as certain details when pushed to the point of the original concept looked strange in a 3D space.

Unlike "Lady Knight" the high poly was not baked into the diffuse, the entire model was painted from scratch. The highpoly was only used as a retopo base.

Thanks for having a look at my work, you've managed to find the bottom!

Feel free to give me a high five and make sure to check out all the other awesome entries!
