Understanding the values and placing the light source so that it feels more threatening, leaving the dangerous parts of the creature in the darker zone.

Stages of the creature

Through the exploration process I made a moodboard to explore more about creature creation, artists, textures and animals that could help me develope my own thing.

The goal was to create a criature that could be from the Upside Down so I also took references from the original Demogorgon and concept pieces from the show.

Durante el proceso de exploración hice un moodboard para investigar más sobre creación de criaturas, artistas, texturas y animales que pudiesen ayudarme a desarrollar mi propia criatura.

El objetivo era crear algo que pudiese venir del Upside Down así que también cogí referencias del demogorgon original y algunas piezas de concept de la serie.

Final shape decision

After exploring different shapes I had to decide which one adjusted more to my idea. I ended up choosing the worm like demogorgon because It felt more slimy and unpleasant.

Also it made more sense it's way of dying and reproducting having that shape than being bipedal.

Tras explorar las diferentes formas del Demogorgon tuve que decidir cuál se ajustaba más a mi idea. finalmente escogí la que tiene más parecido con un gusano ya que me resultaba mucho más viscosa y desagradable.

De esta forma también tenía mucho más sentido la manera de morir y reproducirse de la criatura, mucho más que siendo bípedo.

Life and death of the Demogorgon.My reinterpretation of the creature and how it reproduces when it dies.

I was curious about the creatures of the Upside Down so I decided to reinterpretate the main creature and give it a life more developed. In the process I came with the idea of giving the creature a different body shape and another way of hunt its preys. Also I though of a way of how its reproductive system works. Instead of giving it a partner, the Demogorgon starts to create new criatures in it's back. It has a giant bag (it works like a human placenta) that starts growing when the Demogorgon is old enough. When the weight of the bag is too heavy, the Demogorgon falls and dies, then that bag burst and new creatures emerges from the inside.

Tenía curiosidad sobre como el Mundo del Revés funcionaba así que decidí reinterpretar la criatura protagonista de la serie y desarrollar un poco más como funciona su vida. Durante el proceso de creación de la criatura se me ocurrió que lo mejor era darle un cuerpo diferente al que aparece en la serie y por tanto una forma nueva de cazar las presas. También pensé en como podría funcionar su sistema reproductivo. En lugar de necesitar una pareja, el Demogorgon comienza a crear a sus crías, en su espalda, cuando tiene la edad suficiente. Cuenta con una bolsa (que funciona como una placenta humana) en la espalda. Cuando la placenta pesa demasiado, el Demogorgon cae al suelo y muere, entonces la bolsa se rompe y emergen de ella las crías, nuevos Demogorgon.
