Description

As the name implies the 3D environmental scene shows my journey as an artist through the game art industry.

Since the final major project represents the last big step for me to take before I can hopefully find footing in the game industry, I have incorporated my impressions, feelings, and experiences I collected for the last 3 years on this unforgettable journey.

The environment is separated into three major distinct areas.

Of course, the impressions and experiences that I have gained are not detached from each other, but since I am creating a game environment, I had to make compromises to achieve an overall better-designed environment.

The first area which is also the starting point of the level is called “Abyss” and represents the beginning of my journey studying game art.

In the beginning, everything seemed rather vague, unpredictable, and risky. Neither my family nor my friends, not even I knew, what it meant to study game art, what you learn, and what the chances of getting a job are.

Despite, that I have always been interested in game development. However, I did not expect so many different topics and practices to raise my interest. I could not decide on what to learn first or what to specialize in at all.

To match my first impressions of the game art industry/scene, the “Abyss” section is rather dark, mysterious, and offers various points of interest.

The second section “Hell” mainly reflects the hard work that I put into practicing/learning game art. Furthermore, it represents the pressure to perform that arises from constant comparison to other artists in the field, and the awful nights in which I was questioning myself if I am even on the right track.

Accordingly, the section is dirty, unsafe to walk through, heated, and devastating.

The third section “Heaven”, which forms the endpoint of the environment stands metaphorically for the final major project in general. Because finishing University brings me one step closer to the game art industry and thus my dream. It also represents happiness after completing an artwork or a task related to game art and the pride that comes with overcoming the doubters or one’s limitations of skills.
