Game Animation
Assignments completed during the 1-year Game Art diploma at 3dsense Media School
Hi, I am Nicolas and this is the collection of animation that I had done throughout my time in 3dSense Media School. It has been an eye-opening but certainly challenging experience. Thank you everyone who has helped me along the way and I hope you enjoy it!
Game Animation Showreel
Character Intro:
This is the first animation shot that I have done. I was going for a cinematic shot sequence to showcase the character “Rin”, similar to the trailer that the creators of the rig did. I learnt a lot working on this shot; how to set a manageable layout, fundamentals of animation and I would say this is the turning point.
Special thanks to my lecturer, Azarudeen Shanavas for guiding me onto establishing this idea to fruition.
Character Walk Cycle
Back to the basics. Like I mentioned before this, I really wanted to work on my foundations so I decided to focus on that. This is also where I learnt more about Unreal Engine 4 so I am very proud of the outcome!
Combo Attack
The making of this shot was I think one of the more challenging out of all the shots as it was much more dynamic and movement heavy compared to the rest. Thanks to my lecturer, Azarudeen Shanavas for guiding me.
Death Animation
*input arrow-in-the-knee joke* This was a fun shot to do. I learnt how to really study the momentum of a character and how it would react to contact on the ground (with reference). I also learnt that reducing is okay as I had to reduce a lot of the “bouncing” during the fall.
Progression Reel
Working on this shot was probably the highlight in my journey in 3dSense Media School. It provided a new perspective to body mechanics as when it comes to creatures, it is definitely a new aspect when it comes to animation. When it comes to reference, as I wanted to portray a “sneakiness” to it, I had the idea to use the komodo dragon as a reference as I feel that they portray a sense of stealth in the way that I like. Overall, I am happy with the outcome.
