Hello, here's a book cover type illustration made based on "The Little Match Girl" by Hans Christian Andersen in a more dark fantasy setting were the little girl is trying to escape her monsters/dark thoughts with the hope carried by the light of the match flame.

Thumbnails : For this project on famous tales, I chose to go for The Little Match girl. We had to make a darker version of it for a book cover. So I made many iterations on composition to see what was best. I wanted to have the feeling that the little girl was being chased by some kind of shadow and that her only hope was the little match she carries with her.
Color tests : I tried some very rough color tests and chose the first one as I thought it was more fitting, the colors looked more coherent and it was not aggressive to the eye like the bottom left one.
