3D Model of a Dungeon Door - Level Asset Practise

Round of applause for our sponsors

This is my Dungeon Door model I did during my first year of learning Maya at University. I was still early on to Maya when I modelled this piece, but I was really interested in doing some level design type of work and something using stones or rocks because I had seen some nice stylised rock models.

I really like how this model came out. I like the details I managed to get in during the modelling for this model but don't like how the texturing takes away from some of them.

These are 4 images taken during the production of the Dungeon Door Model.

- The first image is right at the start of the production process when I was just blocking out the main arch shape for over the top of the door. I used extrusions, rotations and scaling to grow the arch out from the bottom up. I also used the mirror tool to do it symmetrically.

- The second image is further on, when I had got the shape for the pillars on either side (Once again using the symmetry tool too make them evenly on each side) and begun adding details onto the door and arch. I slightly changed the design here at the top, opting to use scaled extrusions and normal inwards extrusions to make a gap in the top.

- The third image is at the end of the modelling process and at the beginning of the texturing process. I knew for this model I would have to use UV's so I was trying to make sure I was thinking about the UV map whilst modelling it. I was really happy with the model in the end and think it went well.

- The fourth image is the finished piece with all it's textures applied. I like the textures and am impressed I was able to do them with little resistance, when I'd only just started and textures scared me. This was also my first time using textures of a plain image and not me drawing them using Procreate.
