Update - 26 Apr 2024

I've been pretty silent as of late, mainly because i've been working on multiple piece for my portfolio, but I'm finally able to share one of them!
This is the S.S. Sister Harriet! A fictional ocean liner heavily based on The S.S. Kroonland.
This model was commissioned to me by a friend to be used in the visuals for an online roleplay event, and will be used in multiple animated banners that will be posted as the event goes on.

Working on her has been quite a journey, especially considering how much she has evolved over time.

The model was originally going to sport a dirtier look and used a normal map for the hull details, but I later decided to actually model the plates after experimenting a little with various techniques.

With that, I started to look for a way to incorporate more details to increase the level of realism of the model, like rivets!

With the ship being a fictional liner, I had to improvise on a lot of details without having the privilege of using actual technical plans, so the plating and the rivets were placed following the riveting plans of the R.M.S. Olympic as a reference.

While adding the rivets, I moved on to adding other details to the decks and other areas of the ship, like portholes!

Another important part of her renders is of course the water! I started to slowly chip away at a procedural foam wake for the final images. I'm still going to update it as i go, but i am quite proud of the final result.

Final version of the wake.

In the last week, I've been spending most of my time on this model, adding details like lifeboats, rigging, the firemen's escape hatches at the base of the funnels and adjusting the mast cranes.

Process of adding the mast rigging:

And these are the final showcase renders! I'll be updating and changing a few parts of the model to prepare for the animations, so stay tuned for that!

And that is all! thank you for reading, hopefully you found this post interesting as i'm really proud of the final result!
