Round of applause for our sponsors

The Breakfast project is one of the first renders done with Maya Renderman. I got familiar with subsurface and displacement maps. I learned how to create realistic maps using Photoshop.

For texturing and displacement maps, I had to create my own textures using pictures I took for the project and Photoshop.

I created a brush in order to spread droplets easily on the map. I also created other brushes for the stains, fingerprints and dirt.

An other thing I had to think about is differences of material on a single mesh. I used masks to separate the different materials like metal and dirt although today I would use pxrlayers to do so. I had fun testing the colors of the refraction index to find the right look for the knife and fork. I also added a industrial touch using a stripe pattern in the roughness and bump map. The fingerprints and stains add more realism.

The composition makes the picture look dynamic and I love to let my gaze wander through it.
