90's Anime Cityscape
My first standalone stylized environment created in blender using node based materials!
This was a super fun and challenging project attempting to emulate the style of many 80's and 90's Anime movie environments. I was heavily inspired by Ghost In The Shell, Akira, etc. Like Ghost In The Shell most of the real life references came from Hong Kong. It definitely was a challenge modelling a wide breadth of assets to create modular pieces. This was my first time modelling and martialing outside from realism and creating the stylized shader was the main challenge. I think I could refine it more; but I learned much more about the node tree system within blender based on the many tutorials I watched. I would like to give the stylized shaders another go in the future; trying to capture that gouache-esque feel. It was really fun to do the post processing and playing with the camera to get the overexposed film blooms and I found using Blender's in software compositor was also quite fun. I'm looking forward to trying more stylized experiments like this project.
