Title Sequence Design for a Historic Show

Malebo Em Botden
by embotden on 24 Nov 2023

These frames were created as part of the Main Title Design course by Ash Thorp. The frames are designed for a title sequence for a show about a greedy King who uncovers a magic lamp with powers beyond his grasp. I felt inspired by the tales from '1001 Nights' and wanted to focus on mystery and riches.

Software & Assets

For the environment, I relit 'The Bazaar' by Meshingun Studio. All lighting and camera compositing was done in Unreal Engine. Typography was composed using Adobe Illustrator.

Lighting

The focus was finding golden details within the environment. I used a single rectangular light source and post-processing to blow up the bloom, creating a lens flare effect, making the gold feel even richer.

Typography

When choosing the font, I tried looking for a serif font that would suit a series with a classical medieval theme. One of the main reasons I chose the Estratto font by Isac Correa Rodrigues was because it was variable, allowing me to play around with different thicknesses and capitalization.

I played around with different alignments for the text. The final versions were chosen because I wanted the composition to radiate power and stability, rather than playfulness, adding to the theme of the series.
