Update - 23 Nov 2023

This current project is to redesign a character for a client and make a multi-purpose fully rigged character model ready for use at the client's leisure as an avatar. I began by creating four designs with various silhouettes in order to decide on the general feeling of the design.

After the client decided on the third sketch, I worked on playing around with design elements, as she was not quite satisfied with all the details of the design, but loved the general shape language and the feathered hem.

She ultimately decided on the 9th option, so I got to work on creating a finalised base design. She wanted a hint of the mythical within the elegant Golden Age Hollywood look, so I added gold to her base colour palette of white, black, and blue. I also implemented a celestial patterning within the insides of the clothing and a large hat.

While the design felt complete, it lacked the feeling of approachability. To explore the issue further, I tried my hand at rendering in the style of Yuji Natsume, who worked on Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. First, I analysed the main character Miriam, then I attempted it myself.

This made me realise that the face needed to be made more friendly, the hat had to go, and some adjustments to colour had to be made. With that in mind, I drew the turnaround.
