As a year 3 student - The main goal for me was to push my texturing skills and achieve a realistic-looking dagger while staying faithful to reference images. I wanted to learn how to create ornate designs and details in Zbrush. This project served as a great practice for going over the workflow of prop asset creation.

After a visiting a museum in Turkey, I was inspired to recreate a 19th century gold-inlaid Ottoman dagger.  The main goal for me was to push my texturing skills and stay faithful to the reference to achieve realistic looking results.

Many programs are involved in making a game-ready asset from start to end. I used Maya for low poly model and UVs, Zbrush to sculpt the high poly. I made alpha patterns in Photoshop and Substance Designer to use as brush stamps in Zbrush, and baked, textured, and rendered in Substance Painter.  Studying photorealistic assets and re-creating them in high detail has helped me pick out the tertiary details you might tend to overlook.
