Hello everyone, I am happy to present my second year personal project in Side Academy: Tonowari, the Olo'eyktan of the Metkayina clan. It was a challenging journey that lasted 6 months, but as a fan of "Avatar: The Way of Water" I enjoyed the process anyway.

I would like to start with the presentation of my project from the complete showreel: you can see the turntables of beauty, clay, uv and wireframe and then have a rolling of steel renders.

These are some of the final images rendered with V-Ray in Maya and composed on Nuke. It was a challenge especially to find the right scatter combination for the skin shader, but I am satisfied with the result.

I started from the sculpting of the primary forms on zbrush, up to try all the anatomical details of the subject and it was fun to try my hand with different shapes and body parts than humanoids. Then I continued with the modeling of props and clothes, creating special brushes and alpha in zbrush and photoshop for the modeling of fibers and braids in clothes.

The face was one of the most difficult but satisfying things to accomplish as it had many shapes and details different from human anatomical shapes. I worked a lot on the shape of the nose, forehead and eyes to make it as similar as possible to the references extrapolated from the movie "Avatar: The Way of Water". As for the details of the skin I used maps of Texturing.xyz and applied with the Zwrap on Zbrush, and then add details by hand using various alphas created specifically on photoshop.

The hair and eyelashes I made them with xgen. Having a hair rich in braids was a fairly long process. To make them I first sculpted them in Zbrush with special brushes and then I transformed the edgeloop of the braids in the hair guides and the cap of the braids in the scalp for hair generation.

And finally i want to share with u all the references i used. When i started this project "Avatar - The Way of Water"  was released only at the cinema but not yet available online so the references available were few and in low resolution. Once the film was released on Disney Plus I collected other important references especially for the realization of the final details.
